Climate Change Chart of Brasilia, Brazil

Overview of climate changes

Temperature changes

Averaged across calendar months, the difference in monthly mean temperature was +0.78 °C. This is an unweighted comparison of monthly means, not a day-weighted annual average or a measure of daytime maximum temperatures. The largest monthly increase was in May, with a difference of +1.52 °C; by contrast, August had the largest monthly decrease, a difference of -0.05 °C. These monthly extremes show that the overall mean difference does not describe every month's change.

Changes in rainfall

Averaged across calendar months, mean daily rainfall had a difference of -0.34 mm/day. This unweighted mean compares monthly averages of daily amounts; it is not a monthly rainfall total or a day-weighted annual average. The largest monthly increase occurred in February, with a difference of +0.85 mm/day, while October recorded the largest monthly decrease, a difference of -2.23 mm/day. The overall mean therefore summarizes the month-by-month averages and should not be taken to mean that rainfall changed in the same direction in every month.

Changes in sunshine duration

Across calendar months, mean daily sunshine duration had a difference of -0.02 hours/day, an unweighted comparison of monthly means rather than a day-weighted annual average. The largest monthly increase was in May, with a difference of +0.53 hours/day; the largest decrease was in February, with a difference of -0.37 hours/day. These contrasting monthly changes put the small overall mean difference in context, without implying that daily sunshine changed uniformly throughout the year.
